What Is Accelerated Tradesman?

Designed to jumpstart and prepare those who want a career in the construction, Accelerated Tradesman is a 12 week course for veterans, recent high school graduates, and GED recipients that combines learning beginner carpentry skills with the professional skills needed to be a well-rounded candidate for apprenticeship.

The program consists of 144 hours of
on-the-job carpentry skills training activities and 48 hours of soft skills and construction fundamentals classroom learning over the three-month period. Each class will be 90% hands-on training and 10% classroom studies that touch on principles of carpentry, tool usage, measurements, framing and drywall, safety, structural longevity, project teamwork, and entry-level union test prep to just name
a few.

Experienced union carpenters will be leading the on-the-job training stations and carpentry classroom sessions. The soft skill lessons, including communication, attendance, work ethics, and teamwork, will be lead by workforce development expert instructors.

Training will be held three nights a week with each session lasting 4 hours. The program is free to students and tools/supplies will be provided.

Station 1: Measuring

Learn to read a tape measure, take measurements, and give measurements properly.

 

Station 3: Framing/Drywall

Introduction to metal stud framing and framing layout. Also learn how to properly install drywall.

 

Station 5: Building Scaffolding

Learn how to construct a scaffolding unit that will adequately and securely hold the weight of the workers and the tools.

Station 2: Tool Usage

Learn how to use construction tool properly and in a safe manner.

 

Station 4: Ceiling Installation

Learn how to cut ceiling, reveal, and lay in tile and properly install acoustical ceilings.

 

Classroom: Nine Modules

Touch on the principles of carpentry, teamwork, safety, project timelines, accountability, work culture, etc.
